Eric in front of Lion's Head (look closely) - pic by Adam West
Eric's description of the flight:I was up on Signals yesterday from about 2 pm, and it looked good, if slightly stronger and gustier than I would have liked to deal with on my own, especially with a new glider -- only the second flight with the U2. So I sat and waited to see if the wind might drop a little, which it did. Eventually I rigged, and in the mean time Adam raced back from Stellenbosch after his family engagement, and came up to help me launch. As if that wasn't enough, he came back to fetch me at 7:30pm after I had landed and packed up! What a legend. I had a sweet ~1h30 flight soaring up and down Signal Hill and onto Lion's Head, out over Sea Point, etc. Eish, what a glider -- VG off, and it's just like my old US, but then you pull the VG on full, stuff the bar (with light bar pressure) and dive at the people on Lion's Head, and the air just comes tearing past. And penetrating into the wind is also a completely different story. Lovely. Although the Apostles were sufficiently clear that I could have crossed over, the wind was very NNW, and I was short of time, and all alone ;-), so I held myself in check and stayed where I was, eventually landing at Mouille Point as planned. Thanks again, Adam.
